DISMAL HOLLOW 2/17/07

Ready for another TAKAHIK adventure

...so we head down into Dismal Hollow

...and it was not as easy as we thought

But the ice formations were beautiful

Joshua and David

...and that high energy kid...Cheyenne!

Looking out of the grotto

...and the grotto from outside

Lots of neat shelters

and dangerous icicles

...and frozen waterfalls

and ice covered pathways

Our first big waterfall

..and it was a nice one!

Some of the bluff lines from below

Looking for a way to the bottom

..and we find a way, so here we go?

... and we make it to the bottom

Looking upstream at the falls

This is the waterfall from below

You had to be there to see it's whole beauty

A wide angle view

...and looking downstream

At the bottom of this cliff is a "frozen hiker"

Tristan

....will try....

...anything!

More water art

Looking back to where we had just come

..and looking forward to where we would go

...but first, getting there is half the fun

Cheyenne loves this kind of hiking

... not sure if mom likes it that well?

Some nice water and tree art

Mitchell looking for a dry crossing

We have everyone out looking for a crossing

Sometimes we have to do the best we can

...to get across

...and we have to work together

But look what you get to see on the other side

...and yet another crossing

...and a boost or two to get there

So we find a "not so windy" place to eat lunch

Joshua is cold, so guess what?

David just makes the best of it

Our next adventure will be getting out of here!

... and of course

..you guessed it, another creek to cross

Cheyenne in a hollow Beech Tree

..but where does she get all that energy?

Ah!  That's the secret.

..but first one last look at Dismal Hollow

An orange pin flag, someone has been here before.

We find our way up and out

We did find the Bear Crack, as Tim Ernst had described

..but some chose to enjoy the sunshine and a rest

Climbing up and out was quite a feat in itself!!!!

We decided to take a shortcut back

Even the road we found was UPHILL!

..but we made it back to our vehicles, where we found Vic

and Terrance fast asleep in the jeep.

Don't know where this sign came from, we would not surely

TRESPASS???
