Whitaker Bushwhack May 10     

     Located near Hawksbill Crag is an adventure down into Whitaker Creek, passing by Mule Trail and Thousand Kisses Falls, below Beagle Point and then onward down the creek to the Buffalo River for lunch. We will then trek up the Ladder Trail to Hawksbill Crag and then back to the trailhead making this quite a bushwhack and rated difficult.  Wild Azaleas ought to be out in full bloom and the vistas will be worth all the extra effort.  If you are in good shape and like adventure meet us at Tucker Coliseum at 8:00 A.M. with plenty of water, lunch and your daypack.  While others are standing on Hawksbill Crag, we will be below traversing along Whitaker Creek.  Maybe they will see us and wave.

Buffalo River Canoe (Kayak) Trip May 17     

     We will be floating from Steel Creek to Kyles Landing or from Pruitt to Hasty, depending on the water levels.  The earlier you can rent your canoe the better.  Last year several were unable to get a canoe and were left out of what turned out to be a great float, or should I say sink.  We had folks that seemed to like the water better than being inside their canoe.  But now that everyone has had experience I expect a pleasant trip down the Buffalo. Several of us now have kayaks so we will try our skills doing our float solo.  You are responsible for your own canoe (kayak) so you might want to make arrangements early.  You can check with Buffalo Outdoor Center at 1-800-221-5514 or Lost Valley Canoe at 1-870-861-5522 or Gordon's at 1-800-477-8509. Bring your lunch, sunscreen, snacks and drinks and meet at Tucker Coliseum at 7:00 A.M. (Yes, that is early but it takes us awhile to get there and get shuttled)

OHT Maintenance May 31   

     It is time for us to do our part in maintaining a part of the Ozark Highlands Trail.  Our Section is located just west of Fairview Campground beginning at Chancel Spur and ends at Forest Road 1209.  4.5 miles rated moderate with a 1.5 miles hike out to our vehicles.  We need new folks to join us.  No experience is necessary,  just bring any loppers, clippers, small handsaws, and gloves you might have around the house and we'll teach you the rest.  Also, bring your lunch and a daypack and meet at Tucker Coliseum at 8:00 A.M. and enjoy a day out in the Ozark National Forest.

  Remember Kids like to hike too!
